Your guide to Honda certification
What is HondaTrue Certified?
It’s Honda’s certification program for qualifying pre-owned vehicles, combining an inspection with Honda-backed limited warranties and ownership benefits.
You’ve found a Honda you like. Now you want to know what comes with it. Here’s what the HondaTrue Certified name means—and which details to check before you take the keys.

What comes with certification
Benefits you can put to use.
A certification badge should lead to clear answers. Start with these HondaTrue Certified benefits, then ask us to walk through the paperwork for the particular vehicle you’re considering.
182 points
A documented inspection with a downloadable report.
$0 deductible
For repairs covered by the program’s limited warranty.
24/7 assistance
Roadside support during the applicable limited warranty period, subject to terms.
2 oil changes
Complimentary within the program’s 1-year/12,000-mile maintenance window, whichever comes first.
Maintenance is available at participating Honda dealerships. The eligibility window starts at delivery or when Honda Service Pass expires, whichever is later; confirm the start date for your vehicle.
What does it take to become certified?
First, the vehicle must qualify.
Honda’s current warranty booklet describes HondaTrue Certified eligibility as up to six years from the original in-service date, with fewer than 80,000 miles at the time of sale. Age and mileage alone do not make a Honda certified; it must meet the program’s other requirements.
Look for the specific certification designation on the listing, and ask us to confirm it for the vehicle you like.
Then, look at the inspection.
Honda’s 182-point certification inspection covers the vehicle’s major systems. The completed checklist lets you review the actual vehicle’s inspection information before buying.
Ask to see that report alongside the vehicle history report and available service records. If something needs explaining, bring it up before your test drive.
Understand the coverage
Two coverages. Different starting points.
The important question is, “What coverage will this particular Honda have when I buy it?” Start with the original in-service date, current mileage and factory-warranty status.
On smaller screens, swipe the table sideways.
| Coverage | Time and mileage limit | When the clock starts |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | 7 years or 100,000 total odometer miles, whichever comes first. | The original in-service date. Certification does not restart this clock. |
| Non-powertrain | 2 additional years or 100,000 total odometer miles, whichever comes first. | When the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires, or at certified purchase if it has already expired. |
Coverage applies to eligible components and repairs under the warranty terms. Routine maintenance and common wear items, such as brake pads, are generally excluded.
What should you ask about your warranty?
Ask us to confirm the original in-service date and factory-warranty status, then write down the time and mileage limits for both certified coverages.
This guide explains which questions to ask. Your vehicle’s warranty documents determine actual coverage.

Check the full HondaTrue name.
HondaTrue Certified, HondaTrue Used and HondaTrue Certified EV are distinct programs. HondaTrue Used can include older vehicles; HondaTrue Certified EV applies to qualifying electric vehicles. Their eligibility rules, warranties and benefits differ.
When comparing listings, read the full program name and ask for the matching warranty booklet. This page explains HondaTrue Certified.

Four things to ask for before you buy
- The completed inspection report. Review the findings for this Honda and ask about any reconditioning work.
- The available history. Look through the vehicle history report and service records together. Ask about any gaps or entries you want clarified.
- Your coverage details in writing. Confirm the program, start dates, mileage limits and benefit terms for the exact vehicle.
- An itemized out-the-door price. See the full purchase total and have any optional products explained separately.

HondaTrue Certified questions, answered
Is every used Honda at a Honda dealership HondaTrue Certified?
No. Check the certification designation for the specific vehicle. A dealership may offer used Hondas in different programs as well as vehicles outside HondaTrue. Ask which program and documents apply to the Honda you are considering.
Does HondaTrue Certified mean I can skip the test drive?
A test drive is still useful. Check visibility, seating comfort, controls, passenger space and how the vehicle feels on the road. Bring the things you use regularly, such as a child seat or stroller, so you can see how they fit.
Is HondaTrue Certified the same as Honda Care?
No. HondaTrue Certified is a vehicle certification program. Honda Care vehicle service contracts are separate products available for purchase on eligible vehicles. Ask what is included with certification and what would cost extra.
